MSC Building Fremantle

Over the past 114 years, this heritage building in Fremantle has housed businesses, news bureaus and, in World War II, Royal Australian Navy intelligence. Now known as the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) building, it has undergone meticulous restoration as its said to be one of WA’s most significant historic sites.

It took HSR a year to remove the 1980’s granolithic application to the masonry façades and restore the brick and stonework. This involved tuck repointing, replacement of modillions to cornices, stone indenting to window sills, crack injection, gable stabilisation, manufacturing and installation of new concrete mullions and transoms to windows, reglazing, timber conservation, supply and installation of detailed doors and windows, painting to external timber and render and replacement of lead flashing, copper tiles and metal roofing.
